Flood Watch issued July 21 at 9:51AM EDT until July 22 at 2:00AM EDT by NWS Upton NY * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut, including the following areas, Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven and Southern Fairfield and southeast New York, including the following areas, Northern Westchester, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Southern Westchester. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected this morning into tonight. Averaged rainfall totals will be between 1 and 2 inches, with localized swaths of 3 to 4 inches possible. Peak rainfall rates in the strongest storms could be 2-3 inches per hour. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Flash Flood Warning issued July 21 at 2:02PM EDT until July 21 at 3:30PM EDT by NWS Upton NY At 202 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Bridgeport, Norwalk, Milford, Shelton, New Canaan, Fairfield, Stratford, Trumbull, Westport, Darien, Monroe, Wilton, Weston and Easton. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
