Flood Warning issued July 4 at 6:21AM CDT until July 4 at 6:15PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central Iowa, including the following counties, Boone, Jasper, Marshall, Polk and Story. * WHEN...Until 615 PM CDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 619 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. As much as 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen, with locally higher amounts. - This areal flood warning replaces the flash flood warnings that were previously issued for these counties. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, Newton, Altoona, Boone, Pleasant Hill, Nevada, Carlisle, Bondurant, Story City, Huxley, Saylorville, Madrid, Mitchellville, Colfax, Prairie City, Slater, State Center and Roland. For the latest stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Fourmile Creek at Des Moines Easton Blvd affecting Polk County. South Skunk River near Ames W Riverside Rd affecting Story County. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...The Fourmile Creek at Des Moines Easton Blvd, or from below Interstate 80 to the Des Moines River. * WHEN...Until tomorrow afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, Water affects businesses and apartments east of E 33rd St near E Douglas Ave...E Euclid Ave and Hubbell Ave. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:30 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 15.3 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to 15.4 feet late this morning. It will then fall this evening. It will rise to 14.3 feet late this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late tomorrow morning. - Flood stage is 12.5 feet.
