Special Weather Statement issued July 6 at 12:30PM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA At 1230 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 9 miles southeast of Pocomoke City to 6 miles northeast of Parksley. Movement was east at 10 mph. Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with these storms. Locations impacted include... Bloxom, Hallwood, Horntown, Mappsville, Greenbackville, Wallops Island, Temperanceville, Nelsonia, Modest Town, Oak Hall, Assawoman, Atlantic, and Stockton. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Coastal waters from Fenwick Island DE to Chincoteague VA out 20 NM... At 1141 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These storms are also producing frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes. The thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 nm west of Ocean City Inlet to 12 nm north of Chincoteague to 6 nm northwest of Chincoteague Bay, moving southeast at 10 knots. Locations impacted include... Ocean City Pier, African Queen Wreck, Ocean City Inlet, Gulf Rambler Wreck, Chincoteague Bay, and Chincoteague. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
