Beach Hazards Statement issued July 20 at 3:05PM EDT until July 21 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Marquette MI * WHAT...Dangerous swimming conditions are expected due to high wave action and strong rip currents. * WHERE...Marquette and Alger Counties. * WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...High wave action and dangerous currents will lead to life threatening swimming conditions. Waves in rapid succession can tire swimmers quickly. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Current related fatalities and rescues in the past have occurred due to similar wave conditions at locations listed below: For Marquette County: Middle Bay north of Presque Isle and at Little Presque Isle. For Alger County: The Au Train River mouth at Au Train, the exposed regions of Grand Marais Harbor, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.

Air Quality Alert issued July 20 at 1:32PM EDT by NWS Marquette MI The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for Monday July 20, for elevated levels of fine particulates (PM2.5) due to wildfire smoke. Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. This is a Statewide Air Quality Alert It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions like asthma. Watch for symptoms including wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, and eyes. You can help reduce air pollution by limiting activities, such as: -outdoor burning; -use of residential wood burning devices. Tips for households: -Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors and, if possible, run central air conditioning with MERV-13 or higher rated filters.
