Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Additional heavy showers and thunderstorms will impact the area today. Localized rain amounts of over 2 inches in an hour will be possible, leading to areas of flash flooding. Flash Flood Warning issued July 6 at 11:29AM EDT until July 6 at 3:15PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ At 1129 AM EDT, trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain with Route 71 in Deal is closed. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. High tide is coming up which will also exacerbate impacts. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Trained spotters reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Long Branch, Asbury Park, Sandy Hook, Middletown, Howell, Marlboro, Tinton Falls, Holmdel, Red Bank, Keansburg, Matawan and Highlands. This includes the following highways... Interstate 195 in New Jersey between mile markers 33 and 34. Garden State Parkway between mile markers 98 and 122. Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... Leonardo, Belmar, Atlantic Highlands, Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, Sandy Hook Reef, and Fair Haven. Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water, stay below deck if possible and keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
