A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung diseases...and the elderly. Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 4 at 9:46PM EDT until July 4 at 10:30PM EDT by NWS Mount Holly NJ At 945 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Kingston, or 10 miles southwest of New Brunswick, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. Strong to damaging winds can occur ahead of any rain associated with a gust front. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible. Locations impacted include... Trenton, New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Somerville, Sandy Hook, Somerset, Edison, Middletown, Old Bridge, East Brunswick, Bridgewater, South Brunswick, Sayreville, North Brunswick, Marlboro, Manalapan, Ewing, Carteret, Tinton Falls, and Holmdel. People at the St. Michaels Fair should seek safe shelter immediately! This includes the following highways... New Jersey Turnpike between exits 6 and 12. Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 358 and 359. Interstate 78 in New Jersey between mile markers 36 and 43. Interstate 195 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 13. Interstate 295 in New Jersey between mile markers 53 and 76. Interstate 287 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 20. Garden State Parkway between mile markers 110 and 133. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
