Northeastern Dare County in eastern North Carolina... * Until 345 PM EDT. * At 240 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Jockeys Ridge State Park, or near Kill Devil Hills, moving northeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Kill Devil Hills, Manns Harbor, Nags Head, Mashoes, Manteo, Colington, Whalebone, Jockeys Ridge State Park, Roanoke Island Festival Park, Wright Brothers National Monument, Nags Head Fishing Pier, Avalon Pier, Wanchese, Bodie Island Lighthouse, and Outer Banks Fishing Pier. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. S of Currituck Beach Light NC to Oregon Inlet NC out to 20 NM... At 308 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located near Ar130, or 7 nm north of The Center Of Roanoke Sound, moving northeast at 10 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, and large hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Boats could suffer significant structural damage in high winds and hail. Small craft could capsize in suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... The Center Of Roanoke Sound, The Center Of Croatan Sound, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Ar140, and Ar130. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, large hail, high waves, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain are possible with this storm. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor immediately. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
