Flood Watch issued May 5 at 4:07AM CDT until May 5 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX A new round of heavy rainfall is moving into the area from the northwest very early this morning, and will continue to make its way across Southeast Texas today. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected across broad areas, with isolated higher amounts of 4 to 8 inches possible within the watch area. This may lead to flash flooding, especially in vulnerable areas, and exacerbate already swollen rivers and streams around the area. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following areas, Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Coastal Harris, Colorado, Grimes, Houston, Inland Harris, Madison, Montgomery, Northern Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Southern Liberty, Trinity, Walker, Waller and Washington. * WHEN...Through this evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A new round of heavy rainfall is moving into the area from the northwest very early this morning, and will continue to make its way across Southeast Texas today. Because of multiple rounds of heavy rain over the past week, flooding may be seen earlier than would be expected under typical conditions. North Central Montgomery County in southeastern Texas... Polk County in southeastern Texas... Northern San Jacinto County in southeastern Texas... Southeastern Trinity County in southeastern Texas... Southeastern Walker County in southeastern Texas... * Until 1000 AM CDT. * At 644 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is 0.75 to 1.5 inches per hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Livingston, Onalaska, Corrigan, Groveton, New Waverly, Coldspring, Point Blank, Goodrich, Seven Oaks, West Livingston, Lake Livingston State Park, Alabama-Coushatta Reservation, Leggett, Moscow, Evergreen and Segno. This includes numerous Low Water Crossings in the warned area. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
