Northeastern Craig County in southwestern Virginia... Southwestern Alleghany VA County in west central Virginia... South Central Greenbrier County in southeastern West Virginia... Northeastern Monroe County in southeastern West Virginia... * Until 745 PM EDT Sunday. * At 136 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain on Midland Trail in Lewisburg. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Alleghany... Lewisburg... White Sulphur Springs... Ronceverte... Jordan Mines... Roaring Mountain Summit... Earlehurst... This includes the following streams and drainages... Dunlap Creek, Crow Run, Craig Creek, Boulder Run, Christleys Run, Bens Run, Dry Creek, Barbours Creek, Cove Branch, Cove Creek, Dry Branch and Blue Spring Run. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Overflowing poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At noon EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Muddy Creek, Howard Creek, Laurel Creek, Laurel Branch, Burns Run, Mill Creek, Greenbrier River, Little Laurel Creek and Cove Creek.
